9 New Telugu Movies On Netflix In 2024 (2024)

There is a large slate of new Telugu movies on Netflix in 2024, some of which have already been released on the streamer and others that are set to appear in the weeks and months after their theatrical releases. The Telugu language film industry is popularly known as Tollywood and it's an offshoot of Bollywood. While Bollywood may have a larger cultural footprint, the Telugu movie market actually surpassed the Hindi one in 2021 (via Business Today). Many still may have higher expectations for upcoming Bollywood movies in 2024, but Tollywood has its share of exciting releases.

With the incredible success of RRR, Tollywood movies have never been more poised to break out of the South Indian and South Asian markets and become, like RRR, international hits. Like Bollywood movies, Tollywood also features dance numbers, impossible physics, and plenty of delightful melodrama, but Telugu films have a greater focus on action and tend to cater to a pan-Indian audience rather than specifically a Hindi-speaking one. All this and the bevy of new Telugu language movies coming to Netflix in 2024 indicate Tollywood is here to stay.

9 Hi Nanna (2023)

Available On Netflix January 4, 2024

Released theatrically on December 7, 2023, and appearing on Netflix less than a month later, Hi Nanna is a romantic drama directed by Shouryuv in his directorial debut. The film tells the story of a six-year-old with cystic fibrosis, Mahi (Kiara Khanna), who meets a mysterious but kind woman, Yashna (Mrunal Thakur). With Yashna's help, Mahi convinces her father Viraj (Nani) to tell the story of Mahi's mother, who disappeared years ago. What no one expects is just how critical Yashna ends up being to both this story and Mahi.

Hi Nanna has fantastic chemistry between its two leads and is a heartwarming tale that powers through some of the weaker moments of the story. The film earned over $1.5 million at the US box office (via Times of India), a milestone for the new filmmaker. It was also nominated for 15 awards and won in each category over three ceremonies: Behindwoods Gold Hall Of Famers Event 2023, Athens International Art Films Festival (March Edition), and Oniros Film Awards, New York (March Edition).

8 Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023)

Available On Netflix January 20, 2024

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire premiered in theaters on December 22, 2023, and then ended up on Netflix a month later, in 2024. Set in the fictional dystopian city-state of Khansaar, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire depicts the friendship between Deva (Prabhas), a tribesman, and Varadha (Prithviraj Sukumaran), the prince of Khansaar. When his father is threatened by a coup d'état, Varadha calls upon his friend Deva to save his crown.

The film earned upwards of 715 crore worldwide, or around $85 million US (via Hindustan Times), making it the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2023, the third highest-grossing Telugu film of all time, the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, and 11th highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Not just a commercial success, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire also earned a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and a sequel is already in the works, titled Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam and set for release in late 2025 (via DNAIndia).

7 Guntur Kaaram (2024)

Available On Netflix February 9, 2024

Guntur Kaaram follows the tumultuous life of Veera Venkata Ramana (Mahesh Babu), whose family is torn apart by political scheming and personal vendettas. Set in Guntur in 1998 and later in 2023, it explores the repercussions of a violent incident that lands Ramana's father, Satyam (Jayaram), in jail. As Ramana navigates a world of corruption and betrayal, he discovers shocking truths about his family and must fight to protect them. Released in theaters on January 12, 2024, Guntur Kaaram landed on Netflix on February 9, 2024.

The film only earned 172 crore at the worldwide box office, or $20.5 million US (via Pinkvilla), making it a box office bomb and the lowest return for any Mahesh Babu film since 2019. Guntur Kaaram does have many issues, including its plotting, music, and screenplay, but Babu is in top form, managing to carry the film alone and ensuring it's still an enjoyable watch.

6 Tillu Square (2024)

In Theaters March 29, 2024; Netflix Release Date Is Unknown

Tillu Square, a romantic comedy-drama from Mallik Ram, is a sequel to the 2022 DJ Tillu, and it was released theatrically on March 29, 2024. Digital distribution rights were purchased by Netflix, but it's unknown when the film will appear on the streamer (via M9). Siddhu Jonnalagadda reprises his role as Bala Gangadhar Tilak aka "DJ Tillu", and this time around, DJ Tillu's love interest is Lilly Joseph (Anupama Parameswaran).

Lily turns out to be more than meets the eye when she reveals she's an undercover Indian Special Forces agent sent to assassinate underworld kingpin, Sheikh Mehboob (Murali Sharma). Twelve days after release, Tillu Square had already earned 75 crore, around $12.5 million USD, a significant amount (via Koimoi). Funny and action-packed, Tillu Square makes clever callbacks to the original film while still being a worthy successor. A third film in the franchise, Tillu Cube, is announced at the end of the movie though no news has come out.

5 NBK109 (2024)

In Theaters May 15, 2024; Netflix Release Date Is Unknown

Nandamuri Balakrishna stars in the upcoming NBK109, a Telugu action drama set for release on May 15, 2024, and the rights for digital release have already been purchased by Netflix, though it's unknown how long after the theatrical release it will appear on the platform (via Cinema Express). Not much is known about the upcoming movie, but Bobby Deol and Urvashi Rautela are set to appear alongside Balakrishna, who, as he often does, will be playing the powerful and skilled hero taking down some kind of antagonistic organization.

This is Kolli Santosh Ravindra's (who often works under the name Bobby Kolli) sixth film and the music is composed by S Thaman. From the teaser trailer, NBK109 looks to be a fiery and intense action thriller with the same entertaining central performance from Balakrishna that audiences have come to expect from the prolific star.

4 Gangs Of Godavari (2024)

In Theaters May 17, 2024; Netflix Release Date Is Unknown

Gangs of Godavari has gone through a few production delays, at one point even being replaced by Gangs of Godavari star Vishwak Sen's epic thriller Gaami (via Times of India). First set to release in December 2023, then moved to March 2024, before finally getting a May 17, 2024 release date for theaters, it appears that Gangs of Godavari is on its way. Sen posted on Instagram to his 1.3 million followers in March 2024 about the film's release,

"Get ready to witness the Most rugged and violent tale from the banks of Godavari! Mass ka Das @vishwaksens’s #GangsofGodavari to release on 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, worldwide. Meet you in theatres this Summer. #GOGOnMay17th"

Not much more is known about the project, but Netflix does have the digital release rights (via OTTplay). When they plan on putting the film on their channel is currently unknown. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the soundtrack and background score and the film is also set to star Anjali, Neha Shetty, Nassar, and P. Sai Kumar among its ensemble cast.

3 Devara: Part 1 (2024)

In Theaters April 5, 2024; Expected On Netflix May 31, 2024

Devara, or Devara: Part 1, is a Telugu action movie from director Koratala Siva that is set to release theatrically on April 5, 2024. Netflix gained the rights for digital distribution, which stipulate that the streamer must wait a minimum of 56 days after its theatrical release before Devara can be placed on the platform, meaning May 31, 2024, is the earliest date it may appear (via News18). The movie is set to star N. T. Rama Rao Jr. as the titular character, Devaraju "Devara".

This will be N. T. Rama Rao Jr.'s first role since his starring performance in RRR as Komaram Bheem. It's also the second collaboration between director Koratala Siva and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. after their 2016 film, Janatha Garage, another popular movie. Expectations are high for Devara and the filmmaker has lofty hopes for the series as well, considering he titled it "Part 1".

2 Buddy (2024)

In Theaters June 15, 2024; Netflix Release Date Is Unknown

Buddy is set to be released in theaters on June 15, 2024, and while Netflix has streaming rights, it's unknown when the Telugu movie will appear on the platform (via FilmiBeat). Director Sam Anton has only worked in Tamil language films previously and Buddy will be his Telugu feature film debut. Starring Allu Sirish, Buddy is a hyperstylized action film that appears to be a combination of Taken and Ted. In the short shared video, a team of masked men are hired by a man in a Purge-style mask to kill an anthropomorphic teddy bear.

Before they can get to the stuffed toy, Allu Sirish arrives on the scene and easily defeats the hitman, and the bear joins in with an oversized weapon of his own, taking on the leader. Stylish, action-packed, and darkly funny, Buddy looks to be a completely unique Tollywood movie.

1 Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024)

Pushpa 2: The Rule is a 2024 follow-up to the 2021 action film Pushpa: The Rise, starring Allu Arjun as Molleti Pushpa Raj, the namesake of the series. In Pushpa 2: The Rule, the main character is ruling over his underworld empire and dealing with all the problems that come with being the king. The film is set for release in theaters on August 15, 2024, and Netflix has acquired the rights to the digital release of the movie, though no premiere date has been announced (via Variety).

Bandreddi Sukumar, director of the first Pushpa film, returns to the chair in the sequel to his action-packed Telugu movie. Sukumar has reworked the script of Pushpa 2: The Rule several times, hoping to meet the high expectations set by the first movie (via Times of India).
